For those who like to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life, Hartland Peninsula is ideal, secluded away in the North West corner of Devon, offering a remote wildness and natural beauty. You can explore the twelve miles of fantastic rugged coastline or enjoy the many inland walks the area has to offer.
Hartland is a typical Devon Town with a small collection of shops and pubs around 2.5 miles off the A39. Charter house is in the Square in very heart of Hartland in a conservation area with many other listed properties. For those looking to come in the August summer Holidays, Hartland carnival is a hugely popular event in the area, usually held during the first full week of August and includes a quiz night, bingo, family fun night, concluding with the grand display of colourful, artistic and amusing floats lead through the town by the Hartland town band.
Some of North Devon's most picturesque coastline is easily accessible with many striking bays where you can spend many an hour fishing or exploring the rock pools. Hartland Quay Hotel and pub together with a small museum is a great location to visit where you can also spend the day on the beach with the family. At the end of the day is a perfect location to watch some spectacular sunsets. There are numerous places of interest in the local area which including Hartland Abbey, founded in 1157 by Augustinian monks and Docton Mill and gardens.
Keen golfers can enjoy the golf courses (including links) and surfers can experience the beaches at Westward Ho! and Bude. Other family attractions include: The Milky Way, The Big Sheep, Tapeley Park, and Dartington Crystal. Why not take a days boat trip from Bideford to Lundy Island, famous for its seabirds, seals, including a few breeding pairs of the Puffins which gave the island its name .Lundy Island and the waters around it are home to an abundance of other animals and plants. Alternatively you can discover the attractive harbour at Clovelly, where you may also be able to hire a fishing boat.
The port and market town of Bideford is approximately 15 miles away with the seaside town of Bude in the opposite direction the same distance away. Barnstaple North Devon's principle town is approximately 26 miles from Hartland.
